Alberta Wheat Pool elevator prairie painting Barry Tate
ALBERTA WHEAT POOL
Wheat pools have been an historic part of the prairies in Canada and the United States. At one time thousands of grain elevators dotted the landscapes and played a crucial roll in the farming communities. Linked by railways and roads, they made shipping millions of tons of grain economical and efficient.
Modern technologies and consolidations are quickly making these fine structures obsolete. In only a few short years wheat pools have almost been almost wiped out!

A few innovative small town communities have embraced the old buildings and have turned them into small shopping areas and restaurants.

Alberta Wheat Pool helps honor and preserve this valuable part of our heritage.
