Farm Theme Paintings

There is a beauty in farm lands similar to seascapes in that there is an abundance of free uncluttered open space. No signs, no advertisements in your face, no honking, loud music or sirens. I believe this peaceful mind resting ambiance simply must be a part of good mental health.
Farm animals like cows and sheep seem to enjoy it too. I especially find them funny with their rolly-polly bodies and "Far Side" expressions. Because of this I often paint the humorous side of farm life with an animated style using fun, bright colors.

Original acrylic on canvas paintings are made with the best artist grade, light fast pigments available and can be hung in brightly lit areas. The painting extends over to finish the edges so framing is optional. My 30 x 40" originals weigh a mere 2 1/2lb (less than a cup of coffee) so hanging is simple and easy using conventional picture hooks. Because part of the image is on the edge, the face dimensions are reduced. 30x40” = 28x38” and 18x22” = 16x20”

Acrylic giclée prints on canvas look very similar to original paintings and are the best type of reproductions available today. I finish each print with artist-grade acrylic and a special mirrored edge treatment that simulates the painted edge of the original. They are ready to hang as is.

I had so much fun painting "Cows Day Off"  I had to do this one! Before I could even pick up my paintbrush folks were already offering enthusiastic suggestions. How about a jogger? How about a photographer using an old fashioned hooded camera? With ears poking out.  Hot dog vendor - no, make that a veggie dog! ... and so it went!

One of  most rewarding elements for me as an artist, is the infinite range of subject ideas I get from my clients. "Everybody Sing!" a fun rooster painting I did was inspired that way. Alas the owner of the rooster suggested he was lonely and a mate might be nice. The rooster's singing ability doesn't match his ego, and his girlfriend has had more than enough!

Day At The Beach was inspired by the Sea Wall in Vancouver BC.  There's all sorts of things going on that beach goers can relate - a jogger with an ipod, a skate boarder, a little calf with their kite stuck in a tree! On the beach 2 bright red cows have over done their stay. A very sexy cow with heart shaped spots draws the admiration of an old bull, but his wife has a different opinion...

This is a real oak tree on Mt. Newton Cross Roads just as spring is approaching. It's crazy twisted branches seem to go every which way but interestingly the tiny tips at the end of every branch where the new leaves form all turn up to meet the sun!

Cows do their own thing... which I think isn't very much! They pretty much eat and sleep and meander lazily. If it weren't for the fences, they would roam the earth aimlessly! Farmers attach big clangy cow bells like the one in the painting to them to help find them.
